Geometry of discrete groups
WebIn this chapter, we study the geometry of discrete groups of isometries of S n, E n, and H n.The chapter begins with an introduction to the projective disk model of hyperbolic n-space.Convex sets, polyhedra, and polytopes in S n, E n, and H n are studied in Sections 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4, respectively. WebThis text is intended to serve as an introduction to the geometry of the action of discrete groups of Mobius transformations. The subject matter has now been studied with changing points of emphasis for over a hundred years, the most recent developments being connected with the theory of 3-manifolds: see, for example, the papers of Poincare 77] … A polytope is a geometric object with flat sides, which exists in any general number of dimensions. A polygon is a polytope in two dimensions, a polyhedron in three dimensions, and so on in higher dimensions (such as a 4-polytope in four dimensions). Some theories further generalize the idea to include such objects as unbounded polytopes (apeirotopes and tessellations), and abstract polytopes.
